In today's ever-changing business
environment, you need every advantage to stay on top. Professional
certification shows employers, clients and associates that you are committed as
a professional. Certification is a 'mark of excellence' that
you carry with you everywhere you go.
You may apply to take the Certified Professional Secretary (CPS) or Certified Administrative Professional
(CAP) exam if you have completed two or four years experience (determined by
educational background) as an administrative professional in the past 15 years.
As an employed professional or student you may be eligible to take the CPS
or CAP Examination.
About The CPS and CAP Exams
The CPS examination contains
three parts and takes one day. The CAP examination includes the three
parts of the CPS exam plus a fourth part and takes one and one-half days. If you
have already attained your CPS rating, you will only have to take the fourth
part.

Recertification
All CPS holders are encouraged to
update their credentials. Anyone certified after 1988 is required to
recertify. Recertification is not difficult. A total of 90 points,
accumulated over a five-year period, are all that is needed. These points are
earned by taking courses, attending seminars and workshops, and holding IAAP
offices or chairing projects.
